Life in the Slow Lane
A motorcycle enthusiast is preparing to start a two-day trek across Great Britain on a moped that will reach a top speed of just 35mph in a bid to raise money for a local charity.
David Evans who works at Ancient House Printing Group is travelling across the country on a Zundapp ZD40 moped in aid of the East Anglian Air Ambulance.
The event organised by the National Autocycle and Cyclometer Club (NACC) starts in Blacknal Rock, just north of Hartlepool, and will finish at Whitehaven in the West Country.
Mr. Evans, 60, who works in the warehouse of Ancient House Printing Group as a forklift truck driver, said The first time I took part in this event was 10 years ago and although I havent done it every year, I like to do it when I can. In my spare time I restore classic mopeds from the 50s and 60s and really enjoy being able to take them out on the open road.
These models are mostly used for commuter runs and short trips, but they are quite capable of longer distances although the fastest we will be able to go is 35mph and only then if we are lucky.
